The ASMBS Research Committee was formed to advance the science and understanding of metabolic and bariatric surgery through research. The committee accomplishes this goal through a number of initiatives, including evaluating the increasing number of grant requests from ASMBS members and awarding ASMBS Foundation research dollars to the most promising studies and investigators. The 15th Annual ASMBS Research Grant Award Program is accepting applications until Sunday, June 10. The grants are sponsored by the ASMBS Foundation and donated by Dr. Stephen Scott and family. Beyond ASMBS research grant administration, the ASMBS Research Committee has been dedicated to providing members with data for quality programs and research projects. The committee has been involved in the partnership between the American College of Surgeons and the ASMBS to bring MBSAQIP data to program participants. The committee also welcomes ideas from members as to how to utilize these data to further the scientific and clinical understanding of metabolic and bariatric surgery. In the same vein, the ASMBS Research Committee will initiate a process to solicit the research questions that are important to members in an effort to tailor ASMBS-sponsored research to the priorities of the ASMBS and its members.
