Mark your calendars for the 3rd annual United We Step Challenge taking place on October 31st in conjunction with ObesityWeek. The United We Step Challenge aims to get patients, practices and programs involved in raising the awareness of obesity. Sign up to compete as a team with your colleagues at This year the ASMBS Foundation is introducing a new feature that allows participants to turn their fundraising efforts into steps by adding one step to the final count for every penny raised. ASMBS Program Committee Chair Natan Zundel Shares Exciting Highlights for ObesityWeek 2017

In advance of ObesityWeek 2017, ASMBS Program Committee Chair Natan Zundel, MD, FACS, shared highlights of the upcoming conference. A record number of abstracts were submitted and accepted for presentation. New in 2017, ePosters will be displayed on screens placed in key areas around the convention center. “ObesityWeek 2017 will certainly be an event to remember! ObesityWeek 2017 – Presidential Address and
Mason Lecture Set

Kevin Hall, PhD will be the Mason Lecturer at ObesityWeek 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 1. Dr. Hall received his PhD in Physics from McGill University and is now a tenured Senior Investigator at the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. His main research interests are the regulation of food intake, macronutrient metabolism, energy balance, and body weight. Dr. Hall has twice received both the NIH Director’s Award and the NIDDK Director’s Award, and is the recipient of the E.V. McCullum Award from the American Society for Nutrition, the Lilly Scientific Achievement Award from The Obesity Society, the Guyton Award for Excellence in Integrative Physiology from the American Society of Physiology,and his award-winning Body Weight Planner has been used by millions of people to help predict how diet and physical activity dynamically interact to affect human body weight.

6TH Annual Your Weight Matters National Convention Educates, Advocates and Celebrates Health

More than 500 attendees were in New Orleans August 10-13 for the Obesity Action Coalition’s (OAC) 6th Annual Your Weight Matters National Convention where they learned about weight management strategies from top experts and thought leaders on health, nutrition and weight bias. Attendees also had the opportunity to share their personal journeys with obesity as part of the OAC’s new ENGAGE! Sessions, which allowed them to learn more about the OAC Community. The OAC honored coalition members during its Awards Reception including OAC Member of the Year – Mary Grisaffi; Chairman’s Award – Tammy Beaumont, BSN, RN, CBN; Barbara Thompson Award for Advocacy – Jason Krynicki; Bias Buster of the Year – Pandora Williams, CPT; Community Leader of the Year – Nanette Adams, MEd, LPC.
