Executive Council Announces Election Results


The ASMBS Executive Council announced the results of the 2013 member elections on September 26. The newly elected are:

President Elect: Dr. John Morton

Member-at-large: Dr. Matthew Hutter

Member-at-large: Dr. David Provost

They will begin their tenures following ObesityWeek in November.


Dr. Mathias Fobi Awarded Surgeon of Excellence-International Award and Appointed New Chairman of the Board of Trustees


Dr. Mathias A.L. (MAL) Fobi, FACS, FICS, FACN was honored with the Surgeon of Excellence-International Award during the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES) Congress in September. IAGES is a gathering where minimally invasive surgeons from India and abroad meet.

Dr. Fobi has also begun his tenure as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). He was appointed to the two-year position this past summer at the IFSO Congress. The position is renewable for two additional years.


ASMBS to Host P3: Pedometer Challenge


At ObesityWeek, the ASMBS Foundation will host the P3: Pedometer challenge to raise money for Operation M.O.R.E. for obesity research and education. Registration is $15 and participants can check in and pick up their pedometers the at ASMBS Market Place at specific times during the conference.


The top three fundraisers will receive:

  • iPad Mini
  • iPod Nano
  • ASMBS Merchandise

And the three individuals who record the most steps of their pedometer will receive:

  • iPod Nano
  • Sports Authority Gift Card ($50)
  • ASMBS Merchandise

ASMBS Launches Presidential Gallery, Video Submissions and Leadership Feature on 30th Anniversary Website


The ASMBS has launched a new presidential gallery and a new section dedicated to 30 “Members Who Made a Difference.”Members may view photos of the presidents and 30 members who made a difference and learn of their significant accomplishments.

Additionally, members may submit videos wishing the ASMBS a happy anniversary. Click here to check out just how far we have come, and wish the society many more productive years!
