More than 5,000 attended ObesityWeek 2016 in New Orleans! Here’s a look at this year’s conference in pictures.

ObesityWeek 2016 Exhibit Hall

The ObesityWeek 2016 Exhibit Hall featured more than 265 booths showcasing the latest products, services and technologies in obesity treatment from companies and organizations from throughout the world. There was a steady flow of traffic as attendees saw and even experienced what’s new for patients with obesity and the health professionals who treat them.



ASMBS Foundation LEAD Awards Luncheon

The ASMBS Foundation’s annual LEAD Awards Luncheon was held on November 1, 2016 and featured a lively performance by New Orleans’ JOYFUL Gospel Choir. The annual luncheon honors individuals who have shown outstanding leadership and dedication to the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery.


ASMBS president Raul Rosenthal, MD, welcomes LEAD Awards luncheon attendees and introduces ASMBS immediate-past president John Morton, MD, recipient of The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award for his exemplary dedication to mentoring, teaching and advising medical students in the practice of patient-centered care.

ASMBS Integrated Health Keynote Speaker, Kelly Brownell, PhD, (above) Dean of the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, talks about addressing obesity by changing environmental drivers through public policy initiatives.


Camillo Ricordi, MD, (above), Distinguished Professor of Medicine, University of Miami, presents the ASMBS 2016 Mason Lecture on the “The perfect nutritional storm and its effect on obesity, chronic degenerative diseases and longevity.” Dr. Ricordi credits Dr. Rosenthal, who performed weight-loss surgery on Dr. Ricordi, for saving his life.
