30 Years, $30K and
Countless Good Wishes for the ASMBS 30th Anniversary at ObesityWeek

More than $30,000 was raised for the ASMBS Foundation through individual donations from members who lit a virtual candle atop a cake on the ASMBS 30th anniversary website (asmbs30.org).

Contributions ranging from $30 to $3,030 helped the ASMBS surpass its goal of raising $30,000 -- one thousand dollars for each year since the society's founding by Dr. Edward E. Mason in 1983. So far, the total is $31,161.50, but if you haven't made a contribution yet, there is still time. Go to asmbs30.org/light-a-candle and help pave the way for the next 30 years.

The ASMBS 30th anniversary came to life during ObesityWeek through banners, displays and imagery that included profiles of surgeons and integrated health members and leadership who have made a difference to bariatric surgery and obesity. Doctors Edward Mason, Philip Schauer, Bruce Wolfe, John Morton, Robin Blackstone, Walter Pories and Ninh Nguyen were among the surgeon luminaries and Laura Boyer, RN, CBN, Pamela Davis, RN, CBN, CCM, Tracy Martinez, BSN, RN, CBN, Dale Bond, PhD and Georgeann Mallory, RD, were among those recognized for their contributions to integrated health.

In addition to the profiles of ASMBS presidents and members who made a difference, the website featured a timeline of significant events in ASMBS history, landmark peer-reviewedarticles that shaped our understanding of obesity and metabolic and bariatric surgery, as well as fun videos from members wishing the society a happy anniversary and 30th anniversary memorabilia.
