Integrated Health President’s Corner

Published in June Issue

Dear ASMBS Members:

Last month I alluded to the Integrated Health membership as a great team. I have to echo those words again this month, as the value of the team has become more evident in the all the hard work, dedication and commitment many have demonstrated – locally and nationally. I am reminded that in the many sporting events I have attended and watched (both as a parent and as a fan) there is no “I” in team.

Team is even more strongly evident in metabolic and bariatric surgery programs across the nation. Many metabolic and bariatric surgery programs use the multidisciplinary team to provide preoperative, perioperative and postoperative care to patients affected by obesity and seeking surgical intervention for weight loss. I am confident you will concur, that the multidisciplinary team is largely responsible for the success of our patients, maintenance of safety, and prevention of morbidity and mortality.

Through the multidisciplinary team approach, we have shown the value dietitians, behavioral health providers, nurses, advanced practice practitioners, exercise physiologists, pharmacists, and other dedicated Integrated Health staff contribute to the care of our patients. Congratulations, and keep up the great work.

In the coming issues of connect, you will notice a column dedicated to the various IH committees. The highlighted committee of the month will share the committee’s current and future projects, and further exemplify the value of our IH team.

Additionally, I will continue to share any updates and information with our membership to keep you informed. I am planning another IH Town Hall webinar for July, and will include updates at that time as well. If you have any suggestions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me at: Stay tuned for more updates.
