Certified Nurses Day, March 19

Certified Nurses Day on March 19 honors nurses worldwide who contribute to better patient outcomes through national board certification in their specialty. Certification affirms advanced knowledge, skill, and practice to meet the challenges of modern nursing. ASMBS says there’s no better time to educate your facility about the Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) program. The ASMBS will provide you with 25 CBN brochures. Please email your name, institution and address, and put “Attn: CBN Promotion” in the subject line to by February 26 to receive your brochures. The ASMBS joins the rest of the country in honoring our certified bariatric nurses.

ASMBS Research Committee Announces 11th Annual Grant Program

Applications are now being accepted for the 11th Annual ASMBS Research Grant Award Program. Research Grants are open to any principal investigator who is an ASMBS Regular, Affiliate Surgeon/Physician, Associate or Candidate Member. Two grants of $50,000 each will be awarded. The grants are sponsored by the ASMBS Foundation. The application may be found under "Research Grant" in the ASMBS Members only section of the ASMBS website. Submissions are due by Monday, May 5, 2014 at 5 p.m. Eastern time. No changes or additions can be made after this time. ASMBS Spring Educational Event Comes to Miami

The ASMBS Spring Educational Event is schedued for June 18 to 21 in Miami, Florida. The Spring Event provides educational opportunities that can improve the practice of both newcomers and seasoned experts. The schedule will include roundtable sessions with experts, hands-on labs, and special video sessions. There is also a separate educational track focused on Integrated Health. Childhood Obesity Summit Featuring Michelle Obama to be Held
March 12-14

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is convening a summit in Washington, D.C. featuring its keynoter and honorary chair First Lady Michelle Obama. This two-day conference will bring together philanthropic, government, academia and private sector leaders to discuss “real solutions to ending America’s childhood obesity crisis.” The event will also feature US Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and the Honorable William H. ASBP Hosts Spring Obesity Conference in Philadelphia, March 12 – 16

The American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) will host its Spring 2014 Obesity Conference March 12 to 16 in Philadelphia, PA. Nearly 600 clinical obesity medicine physicians and other healthcare providers will hear about the latest issues surrounding obesity medicine including certification, nutrition and metabolism. Conference on Adolescent Bariatric Surgery to be Held in Cincinnati

Adolescent Bariatric Surgery: From Assessment to Long-Term Management will be held at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. The conference aims to provide an opportunity for pediatric surgeons, pediatricians, psychologists, dieticians and other allied health workers to interact with the hospital’s Surgical Weight Loss Program for Teens staff and bariatric surgeons. Additionally, a live webinar will be available for distance learning to registered participants. Topics will include preoperative multidisciplinary assessment, preoperative weight management, operative procedures appropriate for teenagers and postoperative management.
