ASMBS Represented on AMA CPT Advisory Committee


Dr. Matthew Brengman was officially appointed to the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Advisory Committee as the “primary advisor” representing the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Brengman is chair of the ASMBS Insurance Committee. The CPT Advisory Committee supports the CPT Editorial Panel, which is tasked with ensuring that CPT codes remain up to date and reflect the latest medical care provided to patients. The members of the Advisory Committee are primarily physicians nominated by the national medical specialty societies represented in the AMA House of Delegates.

ASMBS Patient Learning Center


The ASMBS Patient Learning Center is a user-friendly resource that helps educate patients about bariatric surgery. Obesity Action Coalition Gives Over 500 Memberships Away



The Obesity Action Coalition gave away more than 500 free memberships to individuals wishing to learn more about their weight, improve their quality of health and lend their voice to the organization. The free OAC membership drive was part of #GivingTuesday, and the first part in a month-long effort by the OAC to inspire individuals to become engaged in the Coalition and support its efforts. Throughout the month of December, the OAC is encouraging individuals to donate to the OAC with its “Because of You” year-end
fundraising campaign.

The 20th IFSO World Congress to be held at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, Austria, from August 26th – 29th, 2015. The focus will be on the newly growing discipline of metabolic surgery, endoluminal and mini invasive approaches, as well as the concept of team management.
